Panther Paws of Hope: Backpack Panel Discussion

Panthers of the Roundtable!

Our Panther Paws of Hope initiative recently crossed paths with The ImPactful Panthers with a unique volunteering opportunity for local students!

The ImPactful Panthers are a Gowanda High School student volunteer group determined to make a difference in our local community. While the 2022 school year is coming to a close, we were hopeful for a chance to offer more student volunteer hours before the summer months swept them away. Our opportunity, fortunately, came through a backpack roundtable/panel discussion.

The roundtable hosted by the group was part of an ongoing non-profit effort to deliver backpacks to GCS students in need. Student volunteers assisted us greatly in the process by providing feedback on 7 various backpack samples. Each sample differed in size, design, and target audience. Despite the challenge of catering to different age groups, The ImPactful Panthers excelled in giving us insight from the student perspective.

All in all, the afterschool discussion earned 6 students an hour’s worth of volunteer experience. It was also done entirely disconnected from Chromebooks! Having the students be disconnected was an avid point for us as screen time remains a persistent talking point among parents, families, & faculty. Panel participants were then left to record their thoughts on paper and debate face-to-face rather than through a screen or chatroom.

Collaborating with The ImPactful Panthers was an absolute pleasure & we look forward to seeing what the future holds for these outgoing young individuals. Thank you kindly for your time & we hope you have a great rest of your day!
