Beautifying Gowanda Series: St John’s Park Memorial Day 2024

Beautifying for a Day of Remembrance!

We returned to St John’s Park ahead of Memorial Day in our “Beautifying Gowanda” series!

Beautifying Gowanda is our seasonal program to improve public recreational areas throughout the village. This series features outdoor work & maintenance to transform these locations into more welcoming places for local families and our community. In honor of Memorial Day, we beautified St John’s Park for Gowanda’s remembrance ceremony!

Efforts began at the park’s flagpole by removing stubborn weeds and pouring new stone into the base. The hedgerow was then lightly trimmed after removing entangled invasive trees. The two malus pink spire trees, donated last year in dedication to our country’s fallen heroes, received pruning & mulch soon after. We want to highlight that extensive trimming is required to reshape the hedgerow properly. This work will occur in the fall for the community’s benefit.

Memorial Day is dedicated to the military men and women who have given their lives to protect the American way of life. We are thankful for their bravery and invite you to reflect on their sacrifice during this special day. Have a great week, Gowanda!
